International Peace Day, September 21

On this day - September 21 - the world calls for 24 hours of worldwide ceasefire and nonviolence. The UN appointed this day to celebrate peace through resolution 55/282 in the year 2001. It is an important means to raise global awareness of the importance of peace and conflict prevention in order to increase the pressure on policy makers, governments, and international organizations around the world.

Join the Loft's Peace and Social Justice Writer's group as they celebrate International Peace Day with a reading at the opening of the "A Peace of My Mind" exhibit, 6 p.m., at the Midtown Global Market.
